When Christine Chow speaks, lots of people in the furniture and decorating business listen, When Chow, Director of Membership for The Color Association of the United States addressed the Las Vegas Market in the summer of 2008, she spoke of the color fashion trends for 2008 and 2009.

“It’s a world of multi-color,” she said. “Full spectrum is a new direction for 2009. And, as Americans embrace more color in their everyday lives, they’re more adventurous about color combinations and unusual color effects.”

She predicts that an Asian-influenced color scheme will dominate, especially in high-end furniture products. This palate includes indigos, deep plums, and purples mixed with whites, off whites, and brown. The complementary yellow palate would include mango and wheat.

The always-traditional New England color trend in furniture for 2008-2009 is toward mid-tones such as classic camel, sandy taupe, barn red, salmon pink, and grass green. This palate reflects a positive attitude toward nature and Americans’ increasing use of outdoor spaces such as decks and patios.
